This lecture is intended for M1 students and second-year student-engineers. It aims at giving strong basis on the modelling of propagation channels for various radiofrequency links (aeronautical communications, space links, indoor propagation, mobile links...) and for signal frequency from a few MHz to 100 GHz.

The objectives are to assess the impact of the medium or the near-by environment through which radiofrequency signals are passing (attenuation, scattering, frequency spreading...), with respect to the signal frequency, the link geometry and the antenna characteristics. The main qualitative parameters that characterize the impact of the propagation channel are introduced and treated during tutorial classes. Moreover, on-going research on propagation channel modellings is presented and used as a basis to assess these parameters. Therefore, both research and operational aspects of the propagation channel modellings are dealt with here.
